was the first African pope and was born at a time when Africa was under Roman
control.

established the prestige of the papacy and was instrumental in establishing
the celebration of Easter on a Sunday and called the first Roman synod for
this purpose.

upheld the divinity of Christ - that Christ was supernatural - and the triumph
of good over evil.

the first pope to celebrate Mass in Rome in Latin instead of in Greek which
was the language used at that time throughout Catholicism to say Mass.

died in 199, and he is thought to have died a martyr.
